Aims and Scope

Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis across Disciplines is a free but formal, peer-reviewed electronic journal, intended to provide a publishing platform for cross-disciplinary critical discourse research.

Whilst it is Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) which has claimed the most attention, Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis across Disciplines aims to expand the scope of critical discourse research beyond the models and applications traditionally offered in mainstream CDA. To this end, we welcome papers from CDA but also neighbouring disciplines, which might include, for example, communication studies, media studies and political science.

We particularly welcome papers which: i) explore new methodologies in critical discourse research; and/or ii) apply critical analysis to new discourses.  Where the methodological foundations of CDA historically lie with linguistics, from transformational grammar to systemic functional grammar, new methodologies might be sourced from cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics or pragmatics, for example.  Possible areas with new discourses where critical analysis might be applied include but are not limited to education, the environment, health, or the European Union.  Papers should contain both theoretical and analytical dimensions but may be weighted one way of the other.  The journal is keen to publish critical discourse research applied in both local and global contexts.

Book reviews

Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis across Disciplines will publish book reviews. However, the journal will only publish evaluative rather than summarary reviews. We welcome reviews of any relevant monograph or collected volume.
